Native Linux support and Steam Deck

Active Matter has native Linux support. The official FAQ also confirms Steam Deck support and the Steam store lists Linux requirements. You do not need to assume that Proton is the only route or that Linux users are automatically disconnected by anti-cheat. Developer support is not the same as a particular Valve verification badge or a guaranteed frame rate.

Start with the native installation

1. Install the current game from your Steam library on Linux. Check that you own the full game rather than relying on an old demo listing.
2. If you previously forced a Windows compatibility tool, review that per-game override before testing the native build. Record the original setting so you can restore it.
3. Update the game and your distribution's supported graphics drivers, then verify the installed files. Avoid copying unverified launch variables from unrelated games.
4. Launch with ordinary settings first. Test controls and readability before committing valuable equipment to a raid. PC controller support is officially available.

Requirements and performance

The Steam listing requires a 64-bit Linux distribution, an SSD with 45 GB free space and broadband Internet. Its minimum CPU, RAM and GPU examples are Core i5-6600/Ryzen 3 1300X, 8 GB, and GTX 1050 Ti/RX 470/ARC A580. Recommended examples are Core i5-8700/Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB, and RTX 2060/RX 5700 XT/ARC A770. These are requirements, not benchmarks.

Update 0.4.0.182 (October 9, 2026) fixed Vulkan lighting artifacts after graphics-device resets, flickering on Steam Deck and some AMD cards, memory-pressure stutter, and DirectX 11 freezes including window resizing and error recovery. These fixes identify known software issues; they do not diagnose every remaining crash or guarantee that a specific machine is fixed.

If launch or matchmaking fails

Record the distribution, driver, game version, native/compatibility mode, error text and the point of failure. Change one setting at a time and retest. A Proton experiment is a separate compatibility test, not a requirement for native support. Do not disable or bypass anti-cheat. An error needs its own diagnosis; it does not prove Linux is unsupported.

Do I have to use Proton?

No. Start with the native Linux version. If comparing compatibility modes to investigate a reproducible issue, keep the results separate and restore the original configuration afterward.

Does Steam Deck work?

The developer says yes. That statement does not establish a fixed FPS, a particular graphics preset or Valve's current verification label.

Where should I report a problem?

Use Gaijin support with the error text and reproduction details.
